That's the contention which Bill would like you, his faithful viewer, to believe; but can you when NBC had clearly reported on drone strikes on Al Qaeda members as ordered by the president?
Bill O'Reilly vehemently loathes "the left" and especially "left-wing loons", and is not above displaying this irrational behavior on his program. Whenever he can, he snipes at "the left" (you can assume "the left" to be anyone to his political left, safely so) and counts on his viewers being not only ignorant each time, but being too lazy to investigate the matter on their own. "Sore Loser" O'Reilly's latest stunt has got him into a kerfuffle of sorts with his usual critics. The biggest contention amongst his critics is, rightfully so, how much bullshit he's spewing on the matter.
Here's the rundown of what's going on: Bill O'Reilly confidently claimed that "the left" were passionate opponents of water-boarding when its use was widely reported being ordered by the previous administration, but when the Obama administration amplifies the use of drone strikes by multitudes, he alleged that "the left" had been silent on the matter. He faced heated criticism and was proven wrong when he was pointed Michael Isikoff's copy of the memo (from the presidential administration) documenting and justifying the use of drone strikes, but Bill knows no such thing as humility and this is what he pulled out of his wrinkled bottom (try not to laugh as you read it) on his show:
| | "Last night, I talked with Bob Beckel about the difference in analysis on the subject of waterboarding as compared to killing people with drones. I put forth that NBC News and other media places, they were hysterical over waterboarding, but muted over President Obama's drone attacks.
Immediately the far-left machine cranked up. 'O'Reilly didn't say that NBC News broke the drone memo story. He's a deceiver!' True. I didn't say NBC broke the memo story because we weren't talking about that. Waterboarding versus drone strikes. So once again, we have a propaganda campaign designed to make ignorant people on the left even more ignorant." (Billoreilly.com: The left reacts to President Obama's drone policy (VIDEO) ) |
That was on the 7th of this month, the day after he claimed this on air:
He tried to contradict his own message by effectively saying,
"I didn't talk about NBC denying the drone strikes because I wasn't talking about them denying the drone strikes!"
Yet, if you read the quote directly above, you'll see that he in fact did claim that NBC was silent on drone strikes. He is definitely not a master of his craft anymore, which is to spin the news. Yet, he maintains a fairly sizeable audience each night in spite of his blatant disregard for truth, integrity, and actual journalism.
Michael Isikoff, the National Investigative Correspondent on NBC News, broke the story that O'Reilly is pretending to be nonexistent, on the
4th of February. From then on, NBC and its sister-network MSNBC has bantered on the issue almost non-stop. Rachel Maddow, who sometimes comes off as a blatant Obama-Administration patsy, even discussed it on her program. Yet if you believe O'Reilly's lies for even a second, you'll think that NBC has been, as O'Reilly stated himself, silent on the entire matter. In other words, NBC (as O'Reilly wants you to think) is in the tank for Obama when it comes to the significantly increased number of drone strikes carried out during his administration.
It's also funny to note that Bob Beckel fulfilled his role at Fox News of being an ignorant, weak democrat when he feigned ignorance over NBC having covered this story. Way to play the patsy, Bobby! You're signed to Fox News for a very obvious reason, you joke!
Could anyone be surprised at his continual moronic hijinks given that he's the man who, on air, famously said,
"Tide goes in, tide goes out - you can't explain that." He even tried to defend his stunning lack of understanding and his brazen display of ignorance in a post-show video. This gaffe, or admission if you prefer, is readily mocked around the internet and you can probably still find the very video I mentioned if you so care. It is certainly good for a laugh, so you'd be missing out if you haven't happened upon it yet.
Oh and just so you know, I tried to find a copy of the transcript including O'Reilly's laughable defense on the 7th of February, but neither Fox News or Bill O'Reilly provide that segment in such a form. It's obvious that they're hiding this because you can watch the segment if you search for it, but they do not provide a transcript of O'Reilly saying this stupid shit. Too bad for either party that what goes on the internet, stays on the internet, and they can't quite hide from the stupidity that O'Reilly displays nightly.
In closing, think about this as long as you need to: according to Newsweek's
"Power 50: The List" in 2009, O'Reilly's salary was stated to be $20,000,000 annually. Celebritynetworth.com states that his salary (most up-to-date I assume) is at $16 million annually. He makes tens of millions a year to bullshit a couple million viewers a night. Bullshit really does seem to pay big in America!
