Apparently a lot of people are pissed off about the election results, and they'll do anything in their powers to show it.
It's no shocker that it wasn't a unanimous vote in this year's election, nor was it fully welcomed by the people of America as a whole. How unhappy are people? Unhappy enough that these 20 states have filed petitions to secede from the union: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Here's my question. Would the other 30 states have filed had Romney won? Probably not. Let's not forget that South Carolina tried to secede from the union once before, and all we got in return was a Civil War. Needless to say, the outcome wasn't favorable.
We're barely a week past the elections and a number of these states have already obtained near the number to secede from the union. Unfortunately, I live in one of these states…and this is the first I am hearing of the petitions. So if a state can secede what does that mean for the people? The government is not going to let these states go without a fight. What happens if they do allow it and these states try to return to the union? I'll tell you what. They're going to get the one finger wave from the American Government. Heaven forbid they also have to go to their own currency, in which the value of the dollar could be even less than it is now. You better be ready to welcome higher crime rates and poverty with open arms. How are any of those options the best for anyone? Let's not even forget to mention the chaos it will cause if it goes far enough to actually cause another civil war.
From the side of those who also knew nothing of the petitions filed by your own state, how will it affect you? If this is, in fact, a publicity stunt, how do you feel knowing that the integrity of your state is meaningless in this (
irrational) political game of cat and mouse? It makes me think that I wouldn't want to live under a Government that doesn't even take the precautions to think about the things at stake and the possible outcomes. In order for the petition to be taken seriously, 25,000 signatures must be there. 25,000? That is a
small fraction of each state's population. I live in a small town, and our census is more than that. So why should the fate of a state be decided by a number of supporters that insignificant? It shouldn't. If you ask me, the ones petitioning this are no better than who they are petitioning against. Let's not be reckless about the future of the nation.
